Jon G. Brooks, Owner
JON G. BROOKS practices primarily in consumer bankruptcy, business transactions, and estate planning. He is a member of the California Bar and the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys. Mr. Brooks’s guiding principle in the practice of law is to provide relentless, robust representation to regular people and never to back down to powerful parties. In other words, big banks and credit card issuers hate me. And that’s a badge of honor. Prior to founding his practice in 2004, Mr. Brooks practiced at the Peninsula firm of McGlashan & Sarrail, P.C. in San Mateo.
Mr. Brooks is a graduate of Santa Clara University School of Law where he earned the High Technology Law Certificate for his work in trademark, copyright, and other intellectual property. Mr. Brooks graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Colorado at Boulder with a degree in Spanish Language and Literature. While in Law School, Mr. Brooks studied abroad in Madrid, Spain, where he took classes in European civil law, and EU treaties and formation from faculty including a member of the Spanish Parliament.
Mr. Brooks is fluent in Spanish and serves Spanish speaking clients on a near daily basis.
Prior to entering law school, Mr. Brooks founded his first company, Letra Libre, a book design and typesetting firm in Boulder, Colorado, catering to the needs of university and private scholarly publishers.
Mr. Brooks is also an avid music lover and collector of music of all kinds, but American Jazz of the 1950s and 60s and Brazilian Bossa Nova of the 1960s are among his most beloved genres. Most important of all, Jon G. Brooks, has specifically chosen the field of consumer bankruptcy law as a way of fulfilling his passionate desire of helping working people, and countering the power that the financial industry exerts over all of our lives.
David C. Hsu, Associate
DAVID C. HSU is an Associate Attorney with the Law Offices of Jon G. Brooks, practicing primarily in consumer bankruptcy representation, including both Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 cases, business transactions and business litigation. Mr. Hsu is admitted to the California State Bar and is a member of the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys, and the American Bar Association. Mr. Hsu is fluent in Korean.
Prior to joining the Law Offices of Jon G. Brooks, Mr. Hsu clerked for several technology companies in the San Francisco Bay Area.
In his spare time, Mr. Hsu enjoys traveling, reading, playing golf, basketball, piano, cello, and the guitar.
Kristine Sajan-Fencl, Legal Assistant
Ms. Sajan-Fencl is a graduate of University of California, Berkeley, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Rhetoric. Ms. Sajan-Fencl is our newest legal assistant, and we are excited to welcome her to our bankruptcy team. She is a native speaker of Spanish and likewise speaks fluent Czech as well as conversational French and Portuguese.
